IN-PERSON Volunteer INTERNSHIPS

We're seeking creative, passionate, adventurous individuals to join our team during Women & Water this January through March 2025. Are you interested?  : )

We offer you the opportunity to collaborate with our close-knit team of highly qualified individuals spanning various professions. We are searching for well-rounded, eager, adaptable volunteers interested in learning about and experiencing the North of Peru through the eyes of local women and time spent in the waves. We would appreciate applicants who have experience in the roles listed below. However, we work to create a learning environment, so positions are not strictly limited to experienced individuals.

Levels of surfing are not required. A solid level of Spanish is epic but also not required.

Join us in Lobitos, Peru, for an incredible volunteer internship with the Women & Water program, co-founded by professional athlete Sarah Hauser. This internship offers a unique opportunity to support local girls in cultivating their inner and outer strength through ocean play, artistic expression, and wellness workshops. As an intern, you'll contribute to a Positive Youth Development approach that encourages young women to build compassionate, creative relationships with themselves, their peers, and their environment.

Originally launched in 2018 as a gender-sensitive water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) initiative, Women & Water now integrates holistic health practices inspired by adrienne maree brown's "Emergent Strategy" principles—focusing on adaptation, resilience, and transformative justice. Interns will assist with various program activities, including:

  • Surf Therapy sessions with WAVES Lobitos and training from Groundswell Community Project

  • Mindfulness & Yoga classes

  • Nutrition & Holistic Health workshops

  • Storytelling, creative arts, and audiovisual communication workshops

  • A Common-World approach to environmental education, emphasizing interconnectedness and mutual responsibility between humans and the natural world

This program nurtures a sense of interdependence, community, and mutual support among the girls, helping them gain a deeper understanding of their personal strengths while fostering a healthy relationship with both the social-ecological systems around them and the water bodies — our own and those of our planet.

As a Women & Water intern, you will participate in a wide range of activities designed to promote holistic growth and environmental awareness while contributing to the program’s impact on local girls. You’ll also engage in hands-on workshops, receive one-on-one mentorship, and build meaningful connections within the community of Lobitos.

Our next program runs from January to March 2025.

program fees

This program costs 1300 USD for two weeks of volunteering. We can offer a discount if you would like to stay longer. The minimum stay is two weeks. Fees are payable to Paypal or Venmo. Please contact us with any questions about program fees, payment, or availability.

* Flights to Peru are not included with the program fee and must be purchased independently.

* Before embarking on this adventure, we kindly remind you that it is your responsibility to take care of your own health and travel insurance.
