BIDO, MOROTAI, INDONESIA

As part of our six month Action Communication Program with our local partner, A Liquid Future, and the U.S. Consulate in Surabaya, students from Bido pre-produced, filmed, and directed their own short videos about a picking up trash along their community's beach. Narrated in English by Erlanda, a local student, the videos highlight waste management as a real issue coastal villages face. Bido, a remote fishing village on the island of Morotai in Eastern Indonesia, is one example The only option is to burn plastic waste which releases toxic chemicals into the air and ground. Cost-effective, viable solutions are needed! The first step to solving a problem is to realize, document and share it using media as an advoacy communication tool.
